In the Dark and TipJar - Projects to knock your socks off!

Hey all!

I know I haven’t been updating much recently, but that’s because I’m hard at work!  I am proud to announce that I’m part of two awesome Kickstarter projects right now! They are both very cool, and if you like comics, horror, or just art in general, at least one of these projects is for you!

Here’s the low down and dirty -

IN THE DARK ANTHOLOGY

In the Dark is a brand new horror anthology featuring some of the top and up and coming talent in the comics industry today, and is a great chance to get an anthology full of unique voices doing really cool horror tales. In the vein of the old Tales of the Crypt, Creepy, and other classic horror anthologies, you aren’t going to want to miss this!

The project is spearheaded by Rachael Deering, and she was great enough to pair me up with James Tynion IV, a talented writer and all around nice guy who has given me one of most terrifying monsters to draw. Our tale is going to blow you away!

Pledges for In the Dark start as low as $10 for the full version in PDF, and more for the hardcover. There are still some really cool donation reward tiers open, so it’s WELL worth your time and money! Take a look at In the Dark here!

TIPJAR SKETCH COLLECTION

TipJar is a really cool project masterminded by my great friend Nicky Soh and organized by the rad Jen Hickman! This project is a chance to get to support fresh talent, and get to know new artists(and great people) in a very intimate way- Through their sketchbooks.

Every artist knows that for every good drawing, there’s countless sketches and process work that goes into it’s creation. This is a chance to see some of each artists unique work process, as well as a chance to see experimental work that wouldn’t typically be shown portfolios, or even sketchblogs! Each artist has selected the best of their sketchworks, and contributed at least 50 sketches to the project.

Donations for TipJar start at $1. The more you “tip” the more art you’ll get. Even $1 will get you 300 awesome images, and for as little as $10 you can get the full Megabook - 700 pages of awesomeness. There are also increased reward tiers as well, and for $75 you can get the full package, 4 prints, and an original sketch commission of your choice!

Check out TipJar here! $1 isn’t much to ask to support awesome art and keep us going!

Opportunities like this aren’t going to coming around often, and trust me, you’ll want to say you were there when it happened!

Please support these projects by donating, and if that’s more than your situation allows, please share, reblog, and spread the word to your other art loving friends!

Thanks!

Happy New Year! Wormwood and Tifa sketches

Happy New Year's from Wormwood!

I always liked Tifa!

Happy New Year's everybody! I've had a wonderful year! Probably one of my best (if not THE best) so far! Between getting married to the loveliest girl I have ever met, receiving the amazing Wieringo Scholarship, and my first convention appearance, and all of the other great things that have happened give me alot of hope and drive to make the next year even better!

I had to get up really early for work today. Well, early for me anyway. Thankfully it was really slow, so I had the chance to sketch away! I wanted to draw Ben Templesmith's Wormwood, and he looked so festive I figured he would be happy to welcome in the new year. Tifa has long been a favorite of mine in Final Fantasy VII so I figured I'd take a stab at her too.

Enjoy! I hope you have a great new year, regardless of how you felt about this one! Stay safe!

Baltimore Comic-Con!!!

Hey everyone! It's Wednesday, and I think I'm finally caught up on all my sleep and have my energy back after Baltimore Comic-Con 2012!

This past weekend was a total blast! My friend Nicky Soh and I were invited to be special guests at Baltimore Comic-Con, thanks to Matt Wieringo, Brad Tree, and Marc Nathan at BCC. We are both recipients of the Wieringo Scholarship and they asked us to come out and show our work, and be a part of the convention! They showed us so much generosity, I don't really think I could ever pay it back!

It was a huge honor for us, not only because we were given such a high profile position, but also because it was the first time for either of us to have our own table at a convention! It was really great to meet and talk to people, as well sell sketches and prints! It was really cool to see what different fans liked and didn't and talking with people about their favorite comics and artists was really cool!

Me and Nicky at the Booth, I'm trying to look cool.

The booth was really cool! It was alot bigger than I expected, and we got to share it with Craig Rosseau, Eric Hansen, Matt Wieringo, his wife Suzanne, and Todd DeZago! I met Todd at HeroesCon, but really got a chance to talk to him here, and he gave me some really great advice! It's always cool to meet creators who want to help you out, and it gives me that same desire to help out other people as well! Positive energy is so important!

We were so busy the whole time that neither of us had a chance to walk around and talk to people at all on Saturday! We were in the Liberty Meadows Yearbook, which was published for the first time this year, and tons of fans wanted to come by and talk to us and have us sign it for the scavenger hunt! It was a really great idea for the BCC folks to do it and I think they pulled it off really well!

They also helped Nicky and I out by setting us up with an awesome hotel room! It was right next to the convention, and the convenience was so much more than we could ask for! It was really cool as well since we were able to share the room with two other awesome SCAD grad students, Jen Hickman and David Stoll! We had a great time hanging out with them and were really glad they wanted to share the room with us!

View from the room. Thats the Convention all right there with the walkways.

Cool picture Nicky took of me in the room. Probably letting my wonderful wife know we had arrived!

My favorite part of the Convention was the chance to talk to people, and doing sketches for people.  It can be real challenging to draw things for people on the fly, but that challenge is fun and exciting! I really hope that everyone I did sketches for really enjoyed them!

Here are a few sketches from the Con:

My first sketch of the Con, Special Thanks to Dave Tillney!

Gambit

EvilEyes

He wanted himself kneeing a zombie in the nuts! Fun to draw!

This was awesome. He had a huge 18x24 bristol with all these 2x3 slots for headsketches of the Rocketeer. Real honor to be on this with some of the other huge names he had!

Sandman

All in all it was an amazing time and I'm glad to everyone who came out to see us including my parents! All it all I think it was a great experience for the both of us, and one that I'll remember for a long time to come!

Nicky and I with Matt and Suzanne! The coolest sponsors I could ever imagine!

Tellos - Koj and Jarek

A sketch of Koj and Jarek in memory of Mike Wieringo. Five years today.  Tellos was such an exuberant, fun book, and I could tell he really enjoyed drawing and creating those characters and that world.

We will always miss you Mike.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope everyone who celebrated today had a great one! I spent most of the day enjoying Skyrim, and relaxing.

I've finally gotten started on the excited, fantastic, and super cool Madness of Phantom Hitler comic with Carlos Florez and Wesley Dodge Smith. Pretty great stuff!

Fun Fact: Cats are the 7th sleepiest animal on the planet, and the most popular housepet!

Here's a sketch of my house that I did over a few weeks ago. Enjoy!
